Position Description
The Biomedical Mass Spectrometry Center (BioMS) is a campus-wide shared facility within the Schools of the Health Sciences at the University of Pittsburgh dedicated to the development and application of state-of-the-art methods for the analysis of proteins, metabolites, and lipids.
We are currently looking for a Senior Biochemist Research Scientist with expertise in protein mass spectrometry (MS) and a broad knowledge of cancer research. Working as a member of a dynamic and highly motivated interdisciplinary team, the incumbent Research Scientist will design, implement, and apply a mass spectrometry platform for the discovery of biologically relevant proteins.
The ideal candidate will have strong instrument skills and a desire to test new equipment and develop innovative solutions and research protocols. He or she will function as an active collaborator in scientific research and managing projects. The incumbent will understand each project, assure the appropriate experimental designs and controls are established, and see that appropriate methods are used to achieve project goals. He or she will also actively collaborate with faculty and staff scientists from diverse disciplines.
Working in this capacity, the incumbent will assist with managing a team of (2-3) staff research specialists and post-docs, leading the design, execution, and analysis of complex proteomics projects. Clear communication with customers, staff, and facility leadership is essential. This is accomplished by communicating project progression and results.
The incumbent will supervise and train individuals at all levels. Exceptional interpersonal, troubleshooting, and customer service skills are essential. The successful candidate must have a PhD in chemistry, biochemistry, or a related scientific discipline with relevant postdoctoral and/or industrial experience. Publication in peer-refereed journals is helpful. Hands-on experience in mass spectrometry and proteomic technologies is essential. Broad knowledge and previous experience in molecular, cellular, and cancer biology is preferred.

PhD degree in analytical chemistry, biochemistry, or a related scientific discipline.
Required Licenses/Certifications
6 years of chemistry or biochemistry laboratory experience, of which at least 5 years are in mass spectrometric and bioanalytical analyses of proteins and/or other biomolecules.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
