Position Description
The Division of Laboratory Animal Resources (DLAR) Research Technician II will provide husbandry care to laboratory animals housed in the Regional Bio-containment Laboratory (RBL).
The candidate will clean and sanitize animal housing enclosures, provide food, water, and enrichment, perform basic health observations, and administer some medical treatments and/or unique diets. Facility support duties include laundering clothing, sweeping, mopping, general cleaning, stocking supply areas, and assisting with cage-wash operations. Administrative duties include documenting animal care activities and maintaining inventories of the animal populations. The employee may also have to euthanize animals. Due to the nature of bio-hazard research, the candidate must be capable of adequately performing all duties outlined while wearing respiratory protection and other personal protective equipment required to enter Bio-safety Level 3 facilities.
The candidate must have strong written & verbal communication skills and have knowledge of Microsoft Office. Must be able to travel to and work in other areas of theDLAR, work weekends & holidays, push/pull heavy equipment, and lift 50 pounds.
The candidate must fulfill a confidential medical screening to determine appropriate health status for entering higher level bio-containment facilities. The position requires successful enrollment in the University of Pittsburgh Animal Exposure Surveillance Program, and other medical surveillance/immunization programs as dictated by the active research when applicable. The candidate must successfully complete extensive state and federal criminal background checks and be granted Department of Justice security clearance for work with Select Agents and Toxins, as warranted and required by Federal regulation.

The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
