Job Summary
Children's Hospital of Pgh is hiring a full-time Staff Sonographer to help support the CCardiology Department for its Lawrenceville location. This position will me working Monday to Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. This position may have travel to satellite offices and on-call shifts.
Perform non-invasive echocardiography and Doppler studies.
Responsibilities
Work with the child and family to secure cooperation so that a diagnostic echocardiographic study can be obtained.
Review patient's medical history to determine what echocardiographic information is needed.
Perform complete echocardiographic studies (two-dimensional imaging and Doppler) on children with structurally normal hearts and simple cardiac lesions (i.e. VSD, ASD, and PDA) without assistance.
Recognize complex heart disease and acquires some of the necessary images. Seek appropriate guidance to complete studies.
Work with all makes of equipment and explores new procedures and technology.
Participate in teaching ultrasound students and cardiology fellows to the degree of own knowledge.
Attend Echocardiography Laboratory teaching conferences and continues to expand own knowledge of echocardiography and congenital heart disease.
Perform clerical duties accurately in a timely manner such as entering data in the patient logbooks and enters patient billing information into appropriate system.
Perform miscellaneous Echocardiography Laboratory duties to include: maintain supplies and equipment, pull and key echo studies, and maintain a clean Echocardiography Laboratory.
Identify four interesting cases, one simple shunt, one simple stenosis and one complex lesion case (as defined by the divisional director) per quarter and logs these cases into the Sonographer QA binder.
Performing scans at the technical level as deemed appropriate by the Lead Sonographer and Medical Director
Function independently and perform the full range of echocardiography examinations. Must be able to work various shifts and provide on-call, overtime and weekend coverage, as well as support examinations at the main campus, satellite and/or any outreach location(s).
Basic Qualifications
Associate's degree - basic sciences area such as ultrasound with an emphasis on cardiac anatomy and physiology or related field.
1 year Echocardiography procedures experience OR enters through CHP trainee position that was successfully completed.
The one year echocardiography experience wquals an independent Echocardiographer employed with full-time status.
Pediatric Cardiac Sonography preferred

Act 34 Criminal Clearance
RDCS Adult OR Pediatric eligible for certification as an RDCS and must obtain licensure within 6 months from date of hire. If entering this level from CHP trainee position, must achieve RDCS certification status within one year of entering role of Staff Sonographer
