Big Data Engineer/Java Developer
Burgeoning Healthcare Software Company is seeking a Big Data Engineer.
In this role, you will design, construct, install, test and maintain highly scalable data management systems. This requires a background as a Software Developer, not DBA.

Your days will be spent on performing exciting and progressive work such as:
- Design, construct, install, test and maintain highly scalable data management systems
- Ensure systems meet business requirements and industry practices
- Develop data set processes for data modelling, mining and production
- Integrate new data management technologies and software engineering tools into existing structures
- Recommend ways to improve data reliability, efficiency and quality
- Create custom software components and analytics applications
- Install and update disaster recovery procedures
- Defining data retention policies
- Collaborate with data architects, modelers and IT team members on project goals
To be successful in this position, you should possess most of the following:
- Proficient understanding of distributed computing principles
- Expert knowledge of Java, Spring and Scala; Knowledge of CQL and XQuery a strong plus
- Experience with NoSQL databases, such as HBase, Cassandra, MongoDB, MarkLogic
- Experience with Spark; Experience with building stream-processing systems using solutions such as Storm or Spark-Streaming a strong plus
- Experience with various messaging systems, such as Kafka or RabbitMQ
- Master degree in computer science or similar.
