WHAT YOU'LL DO IN THIS ROLE The Manager of Sales Tax is a member of the Finance Department and is responsible for oversight of transaction tax systems, maintenance of use tax accruals, adherence to SOX controls, and overall tax process automation and efficiencies. This role will be part of a collaborative, team-oriented environment whose focus is on development and career fulfillment of its teammates. This role will include maintaining an environment of technical expertise and regular review of best practices. Sales and Use Tax Functional Responsibilities Monitors state and local sales tax statutory changes and incorporate changes into all transaction tax systems matrices and other tools, as necessary. Validates the accuracy of Vertex O Series system settings, TaxCertify, and other transaction tax systems through testing and troubleshooting to ensure appropriate sales/use tax amount is being reporting. Maintain oversight over use tax accruals, including monitoring of systems to ensure appropriate amount of use tax is being accrued as well as review and approval of use tax accrued on material non-merchandise purchase orders. Adhering to SOX controls through regular testing and output of system matrices to ensure completeness and accuracy of sales/use information and reporting. Manages the review of sales tax exemption certificate process, ensuring a seamless in-store customer experience. Identifies efficiency opportunities for the sales tax team and leverage automation technologies including Alteryx to ensure continuous improvement of sales tax processes and procedures. Interface and collaborate with our sales tax product team, point of sale teams, and construction, marketing, and non-merchandise procurement teams to ensure cross functional business and technology initiatives are being achieved. Serve as liaison with stores and maintain transaction tax systems for sales tax holidays. Test systems to ensure compliance and assist with customer questions related to taxability. Tax Laws & Compliance:
Develop & maintain an in-depth knowledge of state tax laws, legislation & current developments affecting the company. Monitor & analyze newly enacted legislation to minimize and accurately report the company's taxes. Research and document sales tax questions as they arise. Ensure timely responses to customer and store sales tax-related questions. Assist Senior Director of Tax with tax research and coordination of indirect tax projects. Develop and Train Team Members Provide leadership and mentoring to teammates within the tax department through consistent communication and partnered training. Manage and develop direct reports, including the sales tax accountant role. Drive transformation through process innovation and optimization of resources. Foster an environment that enables career growth and fulfillment of tax department teammates. Inspire a culture of teamwork and partnership that facilitates collaboration within the department as well as with other business functions. Engage in training and development related to both tax technical and leadership skills. Effectively communicate concepts, with the ability to customize the level of detail based on the audience receiving the information. WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR Bachelor's Degree in Accounting/Computer Science 5 - 7 years of total experience with Big 4 experience preferred, not required CPA preferred not required Experience with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel Experience with Vertex or any sales tax determination software Experience with Alteryx Management experience with solid teamwork ethics Strong verbal and written communication skills to interact at all levels, from management to staff Strong technology skills, including experience with transaction tax systems
Salary Range:
$100K -- $150K
Minimum Qualification
Accounting, TaxEstimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
