Based on a concept pioneered by two CMU alumni through their company Emerald Cloud Lab (ECL), the CMU Cloud Lab is the world's first Academic Cloud Lab that allows you to remotely control a complete life sciences and chemistry laboratory from your computer.
It is a remote-controlled, recharge facility primarily for the use of the CMU research community and educational purposes, providing access to a wide array of instrumentation for chemistry and biological sciences wet-lab research.
We are searching for Lab Operators.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who thrives in an exciting and challenging work environment.
You will contribute to the department by providing crucial support by functioning as part of a team charged with executing the logistical aspects of laboratory processes.
Experiments are performed using robotics and automation.
Lab operators are responsible for ensuring that the robotic instrumentation is set up and maintained.
Lab operators receive and follow precise instructions which provide the basis for operating the automated lab.
The cloud lab operations require the ability to read and follow, detailed instructions and the ability to document activities to ensure the integrity of the experiment.
Your core responsibilities will include:
Handle and store hazardous materials according to safety protocols.
Participate in creating and maintaining a safe operating environment.
Using a computer, receives and follows detailed instructions according to detailed protocols Documents activity in detail to ensure the integrity of the experiment.
Provides daily maintenance of machines.
Ensures that supplies, gases, etc are refilled and equipment is experiment ready.
Assists with receiving and recording inventory.
Alerts management to any potential issue with equipment, supplies, etc Suggests ways to optimize efficiency and improve workflow.

Qualifications:
High School Diploma/GED required 0-1 Years of experience in a lab environment Requirements:
Successful background check Requires wide range of mobility, i.
e.
, ability to climb, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, reach, bend at waist, grasp and pick up objects, maneuver in cramped areas, perform minor repairs to equipment, stand for prolonged periods of time, lift and carry equipment and other heavy materials up to 50 lbs.
and pull and push carts up to 150 lbs.
Required to stand and/or walk for extended periods of time and function in constricted spaces as needed.
Willingness to work shifts that support 24/7 nonstandard operating work hours Required to participate in shift rotation which includes, day, evening and night work as well as weekends and holidays.
Required to respond to emergency situations remotely or onsite within a designated timeframe.
