The primary purpose of this role is to Provide input into the use of technology and definition of architectural approaches applied within Allscripts software solutions to meet the company and customer's long-term requirements.
Responsibilities
Be the subject matter expert on all storage/data protection technologies on Allscripts Hosting Solutions
Lead storage/data protection architecture in order to ensure we deliver the most cost effective, consistent, resilient, secure, scalable and supportable designs and implementations for the business and our customers
Collaborate with other systems architects on the infrastructure, support design, and implementation of comprehensive converged infrastructure for all Hosting Solutions Delivery Models
Design and execute plans for proactive system fixes that prevent incidents that impact availability and user experience from occurring
Perform storage/data protection environment troubleshooting to isolate and diagnose common problems
Support conceptual, logical, or physical storage designs with associated documentation (including BCDR components, strategies and standards)
Be involved in applying a formal change management and problem management methodology for Hosting environments
Support and execute pro-active improvements by assessing past problems and current weaknesses in the existing system architecture
Apply formal methods to assess the technical and financial viability of storage architectures for systems & solutions to be leveraged within a remote hosting environment
Work with technical management to architect storage environments that reflect business needs, service-level and availability requirements, and other technology parameters
Provide technical leadership over new infrastructure deployment, platform software management, system troubleshooting, performance engineering and optimization, and infrastructure maintenance
Lead operation of storage & BCDR infrastructure and participate in the development of business requirements and implementation plans to support storage infrastructure/Data Protection for BCDR
Support the technology roadmap in the storage & BCDR space and work with other architects for overall roadmap direction development
Support the operation of the Business Continuity plan as it relates to ongoing processes around backup, recovery practices, media management, and long term retention procedures
Write procedures for installation, use, or troubleshooting of storage/data protection hardware and/or software
Work directly with project management group to help manage implementation of storage/data protection infrastructure projects from a technical, educational level
Establish governing principles for storage design and deployment & BCDR needs
Continually update understanding of business and technology status and objectives and respond to strategic design requests as the business evolves
Stay abreast of storage infrastructure technology and how it is currently impacting and/or driving business solutions & direction of technology with partners, vendors, and applicable industries
Serve as a liaison to vendors and/or third-party providers
Be a point of escalation for systems engineering, and work on-call as needed to assist in resolving critical issues
Have a team first attitude, and a passion for working with an equally committed technology team that has a laser focus on reducing TCO and maintaining & exceeding expected service levels
Qualifications
Qualifications
Strong background (10
years) in storage technology platforms including EMC, NetApp, Pure, Tintri which encompasses solution selection, implementation, patching, upgrades, troubleshooting, system management, pro-active measures, and in documenting best practices
Strong background (5
years) in converged infrastructure (Storage, Network, Compute, Hypervisor) and specific experience with Cisco MDS, Cisco Nexus, Cisco UCS, VMware, MS Hyper-V
Strong background (5
years) in backup and recovery solutions and processes including CommVault, NetApp SnapManager, Avamar, Data Domain, Recover Point
Strong background (5
years) working with Microsoft OS, other Microsoft server technologies (IIS, SQL Server, SCOM, AD, etc.), and Linux
Strong understanding of hypervisor solutions (VMware and Hyper-V)
Strong understanding of cloud storage solutions from AWS and AZURE
Working knowledge of PowerShell and ideally other scripting technologies, and the ability to provide working examples of how you have used scripting to automate deployment, monitoring, and/or to implement corrective actions across a large remote hosted environment
Proven ability to troubleshoot storage and backup environments using developed tools or vendor utilities
Advanced experience and in-depth understanding and of storage communication protocols
Experience in building scalable, fault-tolerant storage infrastructures to support cloud computing & remote hosting
Deep exposure to storage technologies around NAS, SAN, iSCSI/IP Storage, Fibre Channel, FCOE, HBA
Experience in storage analyzers, sniffers and ability to decode storage traffic in a datacenter environment
Storage certifications a plus (EMC certifications, NetApp certifications, Brocade certifications, Cisco certifications etc.)
Strong understanding of data center design and principles, hosting experience a plus

Academic and professional
Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree with a major in Computer Science, Mathematics, MIS or any related courses
Experience:
Upwards of 10 years relevant experience in the IT industry
Demonstrable understanding of architecture principles and methods, technology and standards
Highly motivated by creating business value through the effective use of technology
Travel requirements:
Up to 25% (Able and willing to travel for occasional short assignments)
Working arrangements
Core hours based on local time zone, but willing to be flexible in work schedule to accommodate various time zones of a global organization
