Registered Nurse - Clinical Informatics Specialist

A Clinical Informatics Specialist achieves clinical excellence in Veteran care that is characterized by continuous responsibility and accountability for applying clinical informatics, spanning across service lines and/or disciplines and influencing the organizational mission. She/he is responsible for providing development and implementation of clinical informatics solutions to support all areas of patient care delivery within the electronic health record, including, but not limited to, the direct provision of care, designing useful decisions support systems, managing and delivering the educational experience, troubleshooting user reported issues within the electronic medical record, and supporting clinical metrics and research. This position provides clinical informatics services for designated projects and cross-coverage with the other Clinical Informatics Specialists and Program Analysts. The volume and complexity of responsibilities may be substantial and continuous. The incumbent will serve as a crucial member of the Clinical Informatics unit whose responsibilities will include the following:
Maintaining current knowledge of the broad scope of electronic medical record applications and clinical informatics supports. Implementing existing and updated programs to promote efficient patient care delivery. Analyzing and implementing technical strategies specific to patient care delivery across department lines. Troubleshooting user reported issues within the electronic medical record and serving as both a resource and consultant to clinical staff regarding medical record programs integration and related clinical informatics issues. Researching and troubleshooting independently and/or in collaboration with other specific topics to best address clinical informatics issues or other issues within the electronic medical record that impact documentation/information entry into the medical record. Incorporating theories, principles, and concepts from appropriate sources into the Informatics practice. Examples may include information, systems, and change theories. Principles and concepts may include project management, implementation methods, workflow analysis, process redesign, organizational culture, or database structures. Protecting confidential data from unauthorized release or loss, alteration or deletion. Practicing the highest professional standards of care and practice related to the Informatics practice. Maintaining functional knowledge of clinical process flow and associated information input and output within the electronic medical record system. Utilizing the knowledge or clinical skills and processes, technology, research and all available resources to maximize the delivery of safe, efficient, high quality care through clinical informatics support of care delivery and information capture within the medical record. Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant:
The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. OR The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. Students should submit the certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX to the VA along with a copy of the MSN transcript. (Reference VA Handbook 5005, Appendix G6) OR In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of a current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement for graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia. Preferred

Prior Clinical Informatics experience; Information technology education or training; Exceptional analytical and computer skills. Grade Determinations:
The following criteria must be met in determining the grade assignment of candidates, and if appropriate, the level within a grade:
Nurse I Level I - An Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing, with no additional nursing practice/experience required. Nurse I Level II - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 1 year of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelor's degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience; OR a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) with no additional nursing practice/experience. Nurse I Level III - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a BSN with approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing (MSN) or related field with a BSN and no additional nursing practice/experience. Nurse II - A BSN with approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 2-3 year's of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing or related field with a BSN and approximately 1-2 year's of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree in nursing or meets basic requirements for appointment and has doctoral degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience required. Nurse III - Master's degree in nursing or related field with BSN and approximately 2-3 year's of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree and approximately 2-3 year's of nursing practice/experience. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster.
