Registered Nurse- Float Pool

Same Day Procedure Unit:
1. On the day of procedure, greeting the patient, showing them into their room, giving them the necessary supplies to change into, and storing their belongings. 2. Pre-procedure surgical and GI patients- Assessing and documenting SDPU admission, along with vital signs, notifying anesthesia or GI Charge Nurse of the patient's arrival, verifying that all of the necessary pre-procedure documentation is in place (H&P within 30 days- updated within 24 hrs, I-med consent within 60 days, attending note within 30 days, marking of operative site), place IV access, administer any pre-procedure medications ordered, obtaining lab samples or point of care testing, as ordered. 3. Post procedure- Assessing and documenting Phase II recovery note, q 15-minute vital signs, verifying post procedure orders, administering any post procedure medications, including PRN pain medication, assessing for readiness for discharge, discharge note/ instructions, and patient education. 5. Day after discharge phone call to verify adherence to discharge instructions, knowledge of follow up appointment, confirm follow up appointment and the absence of complications. 6. Delivery of patient belongings at the end of the day. 7. Unit set up for the following day. 9W Short Stay Unit:
Provide nursing care and continuous assessment based on written nursing standards of care, policies and orders by the provider The admitting pre-procedure nurse will be responsible for assessment, pre-procedure admission documentation, insertion of peripheral intravenous access, obtaining EKG and bloodwork, obtaining baseline vital signs, and carrying out all pre-procedure orders. Post-procedurally, the nurse will be responsible for assessment, pain, management, vital signs as ordered, discharge instructions, and post procedure patient education. Monitor surgical/procedure site. Administer oral and intravenous medications as ordered by the provider. Promote and maintain effective pain relief, comfort management, and emotional comfort. Conduct initial and ongoing assessment and document per 9W Short Stay SOP-217. A post-procedure follow-up call will be made by the 9W nursing staff to post procedural patients per the 9W Follow-Up Phone Call SOP. Other duties include, but are not limited to answering the telephone, paging physicians, paging ancillary departments for services, reviewing physician orders, facilitating carrying orders out, printing lab labels and patient wristbands, rooming patients, taking verbal orders in an emergency, assisting with transportation, coordinating patient bed flow with bed coordinator, completing encounters, checking for expired supplies, and cleaning non-critical reusable medical equipment. Surgical Clinics:
Uses sound clinical judgment when responding to patient calls from the call center. Rooms patients using proper patient identification technique. Performs appropriate surgical clinic nursing documentation dependent on patient needs, i.e. Pain assessment, allergy assessment, education assessment, education record, MRSA consent, telephone contact reports, etc. Reviews patient charts to ensure appropriate testing has been completed prior to clinic visit, particularly radiologic studies. Provides post visit education with patients as needed. Distributes surgical site and other peri-operative education as appropriate. Obtains various clinic specimens, ensuring proper labeling of specimens:
MRSA, COVID swabbing. Maintains understanding of correct site protocol and participates in time out procedure. Performs correct handling of non-critical, semi-critical and critical RME in various clinics. Maintains up to date Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) competencies for all pieces of RME handled. Set up clinic rooms as needed for clinic procedures, aware of steps taken to ensure a sterile field. Assists in staple/suture/cast removal. Assists in various clinic procedures. Performs post spine clinic visit call to ensure patient is following plan of care and allow time for questions Performs removal of acupuncture needles. Performs dressing changes as per provider. Maintains cleanliness and appropriate par level of medical supplies in each clinic area, ensuring no outdated supplies are present. Knowledgeable on the medical supplies required to efficiently and effectively run clinic. Additional Assignments for RNs in this Role:
Specialty infusions, Cerumen Clinic, Wound Clinic, post pain injection phone calls, COVID-19 swabbing, Screener CN, Flu shot administration, Pre-op Testing Clinic. Work Schedule:

In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. OR The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. Students should submit the certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX to the VA along with a copy of the MSN transcript. (Reference VA Handbook 5005, Appendix G6) OR In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of a current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement for graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia. Nurse I Level I - An Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing, with no additional nursing practice/experience required. Nurse I Level II - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 1 year of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelor's degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience; OR a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) with no additional nursing practice/experience. Nurse I Level III - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a BSN with approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing (MSN) or related field with a BSN and no additional nursing practice/experience. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
