Pharmacy Technician

Major duties include, but may not be limited to:
Reads and interprets prescriptions, obtains proper medication or material in the proper strength and dosage form; determines proper amount and counts, pours, or measures the medications; affixes proper label; and records required data on Pharmacy's copy of prescription/order. After a final check by a pharmacist, dispenses medication in ambulatory care, pass or discharge situations. Answer and return phone calls from veterans regarding their medication needs. Prepare and package prescriptions for local mail out to patients. Collects drug use evaluation data for quality improvements purposes. Operates and maintains complicated pharmacy equipment; Compounds and/or reconstitutes oral or external medications (non-sterile) without a second review. This includes calculating and converting to proper weights and measures the amount of drug or solution to be used; Monitors ward stock in patient care areas, relays this information to the Pharmacy Procurement Technician. Orders inventory needs during his/her absence. This also includes placing stock in proper storage areas, rotating tock on shelves, and removing/replacing outdated items. May perform other duties as directed. Work Schedule:

Although assigned to a particular duty station, incumbent may be required to perform duties at either duty station ( HJ Heinz and University Drive). Completion of 1 year of post-high school coursework related to medicine (e.g. chemistry, biology, college mathematics, etc.), or successful completion of a 1 year accredited pharmacy technician training program, or 6 months of general experience, that may have included experience in another medical field (licensed practical nurse, laboratory technology, etc.). In addition, the candidate must demonstrate the following KSAs:

Employees at this grade level serve in a pharmacy technician/aide training level position. Grade Requirement GS-4:

Experience:
Successful completion of 2 years above high school with courses related to pharmacy or pharmacy technology, or 1 year of general experience that may have included experience in another medical field (licensed practical nurse, laboratory technology, etc.) Successful completion of a course for medical technicians, hospital corpsmen, medical service specialists, or hospital training obtained in a training program conducted by the Armed Forces or the U.S. Maritime Service under close medical and professional supervision is creditable on a month-for-month basis for general experience. In addition, the candidate must demonstrate the following KSAs:

Pharmacy technicians at the GS-4 level perform all duties expected of employees at the GS-3 level; however, they are expected to exercise greater judgment, require less supervision, and to operate in accordance with all established policies, procedures and techniques. Grade Requirement GS-5:

Successful completion of a 4-year course of study above high school leading to a bachelor's degree that included at least 24 semester hours of courses related to pharmacy or pharmacy technology; successful completion of pertinent specialized training courses in pharmaceutical and pharmacy services while service in the Armed Forces is creditable on a month-for-month basis up to the 1-year of experience required for the GS-5 level; or at least 1-year of experience at the next lower level that demonstrates the core competencies (KSA's). Heavy lifting:
45 pounds and over, Heavy carrying 45 pounds and over, use of fingers and both hands required. Must be able to walk for 4 hours, stand for 7 hours and repeated bending for 2 hours. Near vision correctable at 13 to 16 to Jaeger 1 to 4. Far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and 20/40 in the other eye. Ability to distinguish basic colors and ability to distinguish shades of colors. Hearing required (aid permitted). Mental and emotional stability.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
