Reimbursable Billing Technician

The incumbent serves as the keystone between the VAMC and the CPAC teams to capture and communicate all revenue cycle activities. Processes accurate and timely billing and collection activities to be completed in accordance with national policies, VHA regulations and healthcare laws. Work consists of specialized duties with continuing responsibility for projects, questions, or problems that arise within an area of a program or functional specialty as defined by management. Work involves identifying and studying factors or conditions and determining their interrelationships as appropriate to the defined area of work. The incumbent uses independent analytical techniques and theories to apply and interpret requirements, regulations, and procedures that identify and capture the applicable revenue activities from the affected assigned areas at the VAMCs to the CPAC. Applicants who are current VA employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-06 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. A SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. You may qualify based on your experience as described below:
Specialized
Experience:
You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-05 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to:
1) Identifies, reviews, analyzes, processes and completes co-payments and insurance encounters and other billing related activities. 2) Resolves operational problems as it applies to patient accounts. 3) Applies analytical and evaluation techniques to determine if co-payment bills are appropriate. 4) Reviews, analyzes, researches and verifies insurance policy coverage, filing time frames, COB information, and certification requirements for secondary billing. 5) Documents current account status for all billing and accounting actions identifying when encounters are considered billable or non-billable. Physical Requirements:
The work is primarily sedentary with long periods of sitting at a desk, working with computers daily. Some work may require walking in offices and similar areas for meetings. Work may also require walking and standing in conjunction with travel to and attendance at meetings and conferences away from the worksite. The work does not require any special physical effort. The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
