Nurse Educator- Surgical
Develops, implements and evaluates education and training programs for all surgical service line staff Incorporates current findings from research studies into development of educational programs Facilitates open exchange of ideas between peers, supervisors, and staff when gathering information and resolving education or training needs Effectively incorporates principles of adult learning into education and training programs Designs and delivers orientation to the VAPHS, Surgical Service Line Assesses and documents competence and works with the manager to develop and deliver remedial action plans when competence cannot be verified Coordinates educational programming and competency validation for nursing staff to include new equipment and procedures as well as mandatory requirement. Tracks BLS, Heartcode and ACLS training programs for Surgical Service Line. Maintains educational records Fosters Nursing Student Affiliation Programs and VALOR program Establishes effective relationships with VAPHS and community Attends relevant educational programs which will strengthen clinical knowledge and technical competence Participates in QI reviews to determine the impact of education offerings on care delivered, and initiates changes in educational programs and clinical nursing practice whenever indicated. In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. OR The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. Students should submit the certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX to the VA along with a copy of the MSN transcript. (Reference VA Handbook 5005, Appendix G6) OR In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of a current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement for graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. Nurse I Level II - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 1 year of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelor's degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience; OR a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) with no additional nursing practice/experience.
