Vehicle Description This extra sharp 1968 Oldsmobile 442 Coupe, now available from the MAXmotive Pittsburgh Showroom, brings a little extra sauce to the mix.
It's refinished in its original Saffron Yellow exterior paint, with a black vinyl interior and black vinyl top.
But under the hood, the original 400ci V8 has been fortified with Edelbrock aluminum heads, Edelbrock intake, and an Edelbrock 750cfm carb.
On top is a chrome air cleaner with a K&N filter element.
The rotating assembly was balanced, Ross pistons installed, and the crankshaft polished.
The tune up provides excellent driveability and a brawny but not brash exhaust tone with great response.
It also includes a COMP hydraulic cam, MSD distributor, and coated full-length headers.
The Turbo 400 automatic was treated to a complete rebuild with a heavy-duty converter.
442s have a special Gentleman's Hot Rod character that was carefully preserved in this fine example, while upgrades are found throughout the car.
A new 442 center console and floor shifter adds an upscale feel, as does the Spider Performance thick-rim 3-spoke steering wheel.
A GM Sports 442 tach is installed factory-style in the dash.
Similarly, a Custom Autosound AM/FM//MP3 unit replaces the stock radio.
Originally equipped with power steering and power brakes, the front end was upgraded with disc brakes.
The wheels, though stock appearing, are 15x7 units from Summit.
A thick binder contains dozens of parts and service receipts, plus a handy summary listing the upgrades to the car and costs.
The original 1968 Oldsmobile owner's manual is nicely preserved, and a copy of the 1968 Cutlass/442 Assembly Manual is included as well.
There's a little more power, the chrome is a little shinier, the tires are little wider, the interior is a little more luxurious.
This 1968 442 Coupe has all the beauty and refinement befitting an Oldsmobile, with carefully selected upgrades to make this a true muscle machine.
