Vehicle Description Some Cougar History The third-generation Mercury Cougar (1974-1976), introduced both design and marketing changes to the model line.
All third-generation Cougars were offered under a single XR-7 trim level.
The third generation, moving to a 114-inch wheelbase, was the first Cougar to share its wheelbase with another model line.
As part of adopting the Torino chassis, the Cougar shifted to body-on-frame construction for the first time.
For 1975, the Cougar saw revisions to its engine as the 351 Cleveland was replaced by the updated 351M (Windsor) Our Offering You have the unique opportunity to get your paws on a highly-original, 1-owner Cougar! This gorgeous Saddle Bronze on two-tone tan vinyl interior XR7 was purchased new in the Pittsburgh area and still has the original window sticker and paperwork.
The owner had the car rustproofed by the dealer when purchased so there is zero body rust or frame rot.
With only 39k miles on the 351 V8 and 3-speed column-shift automatic, this big cat is pure 70's style! Having been garage-stored for almost 20 years, it does have some challenges with the engine.
After having a new OEM fuel tank installed, compression test completed, new plugs and oil changed there is still considerable lack of power under load and general rough engine performance.
It has been determined that the heads need rebuilt on the original 351.
This would make a great winter project! Due to the originality of the car, we believe the potential for enjoyment cruising in this Cougar is worth the investment.
