as one of the early sub-compact/economy vehicles from 1953 to 1961.
Our example is a 1957 Series III, family-owned since purchased new from Nash Wilkinsburg Motors on September 16th, 1957 in Pittsburgh, PA.
This Metro has been serviced and maintained at our facility for many years and has been kept in a climate-controlled garage when not in use by the owner.
Driven on nice days and to local car shows (including multiple displays at the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix), this Nash runs, drives, shifts, and stops as it would in '57.
A few minor modifications such as aftermarket oil pressure, water temperature, and amp meter gauges were installed to keep a closer eye on the car's performance.
Beyond that, the car is highly original less general maintenance items, is PA State inspected until 11/23, and has been registered as a PA Classic Vehicle since 1990.
The exterior retains the original P912 Berkshire Green and P914 Frost White 2-tone paint and does have some fade and minor chips.
The rear valance does have a small rust area on the driver's side about the size of a quarter which can be seen in the photos.
Chrome bumpers and trim shine well, and the stainless steel side molding is all there with a few blemishes.
Roomier than you'd think on the inside, the black and white vinyl split-back bench seat does have a small, visible mend but otherwise is in fine shape.
4 seat track extenders were installed to give taller drivers more legroom.
The rear cargo/seating area cushions are in good shape and the roomy, locking trunk compartment is solid.
The white felt headliner has no rips or holes, the glass and mirrors are clear with no chips, and the lap-only seat belts work as they should.
The black carpeting is in average condition with some wear-through on the driver's side foot area.
Mechanically, the car runs exceptionally well.
The 1500 B-series inline 4-cylinder idles fine and zips around city streets with ease.
Although not tested on this vehicle, the Nash Metropolitan was rated at a top speed of around 70 mph.
The 3-speed manual on the column shifts smoothly and the manual brakes, parking brake, and manual steering operate as they should.
The chassis, suspension, and exhaust have a light patina throughout but are solid with no cracks or holes and good floors.
A matching set, including the spare, of 145/R13 Vredestein Sprint T80 radial tires with plenty of tread, are mounted to the factory body-color-matching steel wheels topped with all the original M logo hubcaps.
All gauges, lights, wipers, optional heater, and AM radio work.
In addition, the car comes with the original owner's manual, original sales brochure, owner's handbook, a republished technical service manual, the original jack & tools, and a car cover.
